Martina Serafin soprano

             Born in Vienna, from parents who are also opera singers, she attended the conservatory of her city with Hilde Zadek and later with Otto Edelman, debuting at a very young age in Viennese operettas by Lehar, J. Strauss and Kalman. Following, she sung the roles of Fiordiligi, Donna Elvira and Contessa in the Mozart's trilogy, in Graz and Stuttgart, conducted by L. Zagrosek. Later, she made her debut as Mimi in  Puccini's La Bohème, Marschallin in Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, Sieglinde in Die Walküre and Elsa in Lohengrin, directed by S. Soltesz.

          Today, she is the protagonist in the most important theatres in the world, with a repertoire ranging from Puccini to R. Strauss, from Verdi to Wagner.

            Great performer of Floria Tosca, she has already performed at Teatro alla Scala, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma (directed by F. Zeffirelli), Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (conducted by Zubin Mehta), Covent Garden (conducted by A. Pappano and D.Oren), Arena di Verona (conducted by Armiliato), Terme di Caracala, Opéra National de Paris (conducted by Oren), Wiener Staatsoper, Berlin, Barcelona, ​​Melbourne, Beijing, Monte-Carlo and Teatro Grecco di Taormina (recorded on DVD).

           Martina Serafin is one of the best performers of Turandot, with performances at the Metropolitan Opera (conducted by Armigliato), at the Sala Santa Cecilia in Rome (conducted by Riccardo Chailly, with the Orchestra della Scala), at Arena di Verona (directed by F. Zeffirelli and conducted by Oren), at the Royal Opera House of Muscat (conducted by Placido Domingo), in Bari for the inauguration of Teatro Petruzzelli, at the Pucciniano Festival (conducted by Scaparro), at the Teatro Carlo Fenice di Genova (conducted by Montaldo), in Zurich Opernhaus (directed by Del Monaco) and in Bilbao. As Manon Lescaut, in the Puccini's opera, she sang at Teatro La Fenice, Hamburgischer Staatsoper and Puccini Festival.

           Excellent as Maddalena in Giordano's Andrea Chénier, she starred the role in Zurich (under the baton of Nello Santi), in Vienna (with Armigliato), in Catania and Cagliari (directed by Del Monaco).

         She also sang the Verdi's Requiem, directed by G. Gelmetti, at Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and Verdian roles as Elisabetta in Don Carlo, at the Teatro alla Scala, Lady Macbeth at Wiener Staatsoper and Grand-Teatre del Liceu, Abigaille in Nabucco at Teatro alla Scala, conducted by Nello Santi, at Chorégie d'Orange, conducted by P. Steinberg and directed by Scarpitta, in Barcelona, conducted by Oren and Abbado, at the Arena di Verona, conducted by Frizza.

            She is also an exceptional singer of Wagnerian roles, such as Sieglinde in Die Walküre at the Metropolitan Opera, conducted by Luisi, at the Wiener Staatsoper, conducted by Simon Rattle and Welser-Möst, in Zurich and Paris, conducted by P. Jordan, in Berlin, Amsterdam, Toulouse, Barcelona and Tokyo; Elsa in Lohengrin in Paris, conducted by Jordan, in Palermo, directed by Hugo De Ana, in Dresden, Stuttgart and Bologna, conducted by D. Gatti; Elisabeth in the Tannhäuser at the Rome Opera, under direction of Carsen, in Amsterdam, conducted by Lehnoff; Isolde in Tristan und Isolde, directed by Jordan in Paris and in Ravello, with the orchestra of the San Carlo di Napoli; and Brünnhilde in Amsterdam and Paris, conducted by P.               As Die Feldmarschalin in Richard Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier, Serafin sang at Metropolitan Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, San Francisco Opera, Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Barcelona, ​​Oper Stuttgart, Bayerische Staatsoper and Dutch National Opera.

               She was the protagonist of Robert Schumann's Genoveva, in Palermo; Lisa in Tchaikovsky's Pikovaja Dama, in Vienna, conducted by Seiji Ozawa, in Barcelona and Bologna, directed by Jurowski; Marie in Wozzeck, in Essen; Smetana's The Bartered Bride in Zurich and Bologna, directed by Jurowski; Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, directed by Seiji Ozawa and Zeffirelli, at the Wiener Staatsoper; Fiordiligi in Così fan Tutte, in Stuttgart, directed by Zagrosek; and the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, conducted by Placido Domingo, in Los Angeles.

               She has performed in concert halls around the world, singing Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder and R. Strauss' Vier Letzte Lieder, conducted by Zubin Mehta, with the Wiener Philharmoniker, at the Musikverein in Vienna .

         Among her recent engagements, she sang a wonderful concert beside the tenor Jonas Kaufmann, at the Arena di Verona, with a program of Wagner, Verdi, Giordano and Viennese operettes.
